Balmoral Castle

Balmoral Castle is a holiday home to the most famous family in the UK. With a dramatic and stunning backdrop, the castle is set deep in the heart of mountainous Aberdeenshire in a sprawling estate through which flows the River Dee. Royals have honeymooned here, heads of state and Prime Ministers have visited here and history has been made here. From the end of March to the end of July you can peruse the grounds, gardens, exhibitions and enjoy a cuppa in the cafe. If you’re hardy enough for a winter excursion, you can enjoy a guided tour either with a ranger, or in the comfort of a Landrover Safari and if you plan to stay a little longer, a small selection of charming cottages are available for hire. Many outdoor activities are on offer here, with salmon fishing and golf being specialities of the estate. Aside from being a Royal residence which carries its own intrigue and fascination, Balmoral Castle is also an architecturally and scenically beautiful place with plenty to keep you occupied - a unique attraction not to be missed.

Absolutely amazing experience despite the rain wandering around with the audio tour and the dogs. Balmoral really is an incredibly place. The staff were super friendly and really welcoming. As an avid royalist, outdoors person and castle lover I have always dreamed of visiting and I am so glad I did. The dogs were welcomed and exploring the estate itself in your own time is magical!

The castle is just a small part of this 60000+ acre facility. You can wander all day and see many different things. When you take the self-guided tour it tells you about the different areas and buildings and the history behind them. The visit to the castle itself is very short as you only see a couple of rooms. But you do get to see the Grandeur of the entire grounds. Parking was easy. There's a small admission to get in and then a shuttle will take you to the start.

Nice memorial near front gate of those area dead from WWI. Lovely river over stones and a gorgeous view of the hills.
