On Partick’s bustling Dumbarton Road, there are no shortage of great food stops, with pretty much all tastes being catered to. In April of this year however, Partick welcomed its first fully-vegan Asian fusion restaurant – Suissi.
While Asian cuisine is a staple comfort food in the UK, there are often negative associations drawn with it when it comes to health, including MSGs, and excessive salt and sugars. Suissi are looking to buck that stereotype by coupling a traditional take on Asian cuisine with delicious fresh ingredients.
Switching to a vegan diet for health reasons almost a decade ago, Mama Lim has seen the vegan community at large change drastically around her. Noticing that while vegan options in other restaurants were becoming more and more common, transparency in terms of ethical ingredients and cooking methods were not so readily available, spurring her on to create a menu that was not only vegan-friendly from front to back, but was also highly nutritional.
Mama Lim runs the kitchen with her brother and sister, while her son Stefan handles front of house. Growing up in a Malaysian household, values commonly associated with Confucianism regarding the importance of treating all life with respect are very much a part of what makes Suissi what it is.
