In 1994, Corney & Barrows Scottish operation merged with Whighams of Ayr, one of the longest-established wine merchants in the UK. As well as Whighams residence in Academy Street in Ayr, Corney & Barrow took over the 1766-built cellars, constructed for the sole purpose of storing imported wines, ports and sherries shipped from around Europe. These cellars are very much still in use today for long-term customer reserve storage. At over 240 years old, Corney & Barrow is one of the oldest independent wine merchants in the UK. In 1780, Edward Bland Corney opened his shop on Londons Old Broad Street, offering a small selection of port, sherry and Bordeaux. The business flourished, and in 1838, his son, Thomas introduced his cousin Robert Barrow to the trade. The Corney & Barrow name was born. Today, our offices have grown to the north of England, Scotland, Hong Kong and Singapore, and have expanded into every sector of the market.
