Braithwaites Coffee, owned by Allan Braithwaite, is one of the most exciting little shops in the entirety of Dundee. It’s where adults become as animated as children as they peruse a huge plethora of teas, coffees and drinking paraphernalia. Coffee beans are roasted daily on the premises in line with an age-old family recipe, giving the beans a distinctive flavour and character that is unique to Braithwaites. The business has been running since 1868, so you won’t be surprised to find that the staff are expertly knowledgeable. Most of the fixtures and fittings date back to this period, and beans are weighed and ground as they were more than a century ago. The shop usually has 12 different varieties of coffee, but you can mix a few together to create a taste completely of your own. Even for the novice coffee or tea drinker, Braithwaites Coffee is definitely worth a visit: you’ll learn about a variety of different types of tea and coffee, not to mention their origins and flavours, before finally taking one home for a good old-fashioned brew.

I used to buy all of my coffee from the supermarket, until I realised that buying it from Braithwaite's was actually much better value! The quality of the coffee is much higher, having been freshly roasted and ground the way you want it. I make a regular trip here now, and buy one of the coffees I haven't yet tried, and one bag of Columbian Supremo, which I highly recommend!
