Located on the scenic isle of Arran, you’ll find the historic Brodick Castle. Its history can be traced all the way back to the vikings, and today many relics, fine paintings and pieces of furniture can still be found within its walls. The enlargement and transformation of the property took place in 1843, when the 10th Duke’s son was married to Princess Marie. The castle then saw its collection inherited from William Beckford, consisting of a variety of fine porcelain, silver and jewellery. Fronted by the sea, surrounded by hills and overlooked by the magnificent mountain of Goatfell, the castle’s gardens are equally worth a visit. During the spring, the garden’s internationally-acclaimed collection of rhododendrons bloom in a colourful rainbow, and the wildflower meadows surrounding the castle house new-born Highland cows. You’ll find woodland trails and tumbling waterfalls to intrigue adventurous children, but the walled garden - built in 1710 - is equally exciting with formal landscaping. The castle hosts a range of events and activities throughout the year, so find out what’s on next time you plan a visit to Brodick.
