Montpeliers is an Edinburgh institute that every Bruntsfield resident has fondly frequented. The bar and kitchen is prized for the quality of its food, with many of the ingredients sourced locally. Primely situated on Bruntsfield Place, the bar looms large over the surrounding area. Warm colours, acres of space and moody lighting give the place a welcoming vibe, enhanced by the cordial greeting patrons are extended upon entering. Take a seat at the bar or find a table and peruse the drink menu. There’s a lot to lust after, including a fine selection of Scottish and American craft beers. An accomplished wine and champagne list can also be found, while the cocktails, made with lashings of vodka, rum and gin, are the perfect tipple for a lazy summer’s afternoon. When it comes to food, Montpeliers’ menu hasn’t been tacked on as an after-thought; it’s clear that a lot of thought has gone into creating every dish, from the charred Orkney burger with Isle of Mull cheddar and hand-cut chips to the peanut butter cheesecake with salty popcorn. During the evenings, a more sophisticated menu is crammed with seafood, meat and vegetarian dishes that look as great on the plate as they taste on the tongue.

The Americano did come in a small and pretentious tea cup, there was more hot milk than coffee, but the burger with black pudding was gorgeous. A nicer bun on it would have set it off perfectly. They've got a great selection of beers too.
