Frankenstein (Glendola Leisure Group)

Edinburgh’s Frankenstein bar, located on George IV Bridge, is one of the city’s most unique and interesting places to spend an evening. Just walking into the huge, gothic church takes you back in time – that is, until you hear the bar’s music and take in the trendy and stylish interior. Not a place for the faint-hearted or those looking for a quiet evening drink, Frankenstein’s has a wonderful atmosphere of fun and frolics, which is helped along by the large Frankenstein figure which is daily lowered from the ceiling at regular intervals. The bar serves an array of drinks, including a wide selection of ales and wines, and also has a very good food menu. The menu ranges from ‘light bites and snacks’, which includes sharing platters, nachos and buffalo wings, to burgers, sandwiches, salads and desserts. If you’re looking for somewhere a little different to grab a bite to eat and have a round of drinks with your friends, Frankenstein’s should be high on your list.

Came across this pub by accident whilst wandering around the Old Town. Absolutely amazing place. Cocktails were dirt cheap too-£4 for a decent cocktail. The interior is perfect for a huge fan of Frankenstein! Dark but stylish and cool.

I was wary as I had seen quite a few bad reviews online, but I loved the theme so I wanted to go for the experience. When we arrived, I was really impressed by both the church exterior and the atmospheric interior. A lot of work has gone into giving it a spooky laboratory feel. I wanted to try one of the themed cocktails, but as a non-drinker, I was fully prepared for having to settle for a plain soft drink. To my delight, one of the bar staff made a non-alcoholic version of the Bloody Mary Shelley cocktail for me and adjusted the price too. We also had starters and main courses which were very filling. The burgers were dripping with slightly too much grease and the food was slightly cooler than hot, but otherwise, it was enjoyable. I was concerned we weren't going to be there long enough to see the monster show, but it actually started around fifteen minutes earlier than scheduled, which was lucky for us, but something to be wary of if you are going out of your way to be there for it. The show itself was amazing. It only lasts for a couple of minutes or so but I could feel myself sitting there, burger in hand, grinning up at the display in amazement. Worth a visit!

Came here for an afternoon drink whilst visiting the city with my boyfriend. The themed bar is cool and worth a visit. The drinks are a little but we spent a decent hour in the bar.

Decent themed bar, above average food, good staff but can get very very busy with drinkers and stag/hen parties
