For those who appreciate the finer things in life,
it doesn’t get much finer than oysters washed
down with a bottle of fizz. And for those who relish
such victuals, fine dining doesn’t get much better
than MacCallum’s award-winning Oyster Bar.
Lunches are served Tuesday through Sunday,
likewise with dinner, save for Sunday evenings.
Situated in Troon Harbour, MacCallum’s provides
a spectacular setting in which to watch the world
go by and the fishing fleet dock – the very same
fleet whose catch then makes its way to your plate
in record time. The Oyster Bar, the jewel in their
crown, encapsulates everything that’s great about
Scottish seafood. Warm yourself with a bowl of
Cullen Skink to start, or save your appetite for
dessert, where the prospect of triple chocolate
marquise or sticky toffee pudding should hit the
spot. Never mind the golf; MacCallum’s alone is
reason enough to visit Troon.
WILDINGS HOTEL

The views are spectacular, the rooms are cosy
and the food is as fresh as it gets. Say hello to
Wildings Hotel and Restaurant, a coastal retreat
that epitomises the best elements of Ayrshire
hospitality. The family-friendly hotel is equipped
with 11 en-suite rooms, most of which boast sea
views, and the whole place exudes a laid-back
vibe. Lunch is served daily from 12-2pm, but
the dinner menu is when the culinary team truly
show off their flair. Look out for such delectable
offerings as pan-fried sea bass served with pesto
and crushed potatoes. The meat dishes sound
equally appetising, with roast rack of lamb, duck
breast and fillet of pork all competing for attention.
After dinner, take a stroll along the sandy shore to
Culzean Castle or nurse a drink at the bar while
you watch the sun set. Life moves as a slower
pace round here.
