CAMBRIDGE
UNIVERSITY
BOTANIC GARDEN
Opened to the public in 1846,
Cambridge University Botanic
Garden develops and displays
over 8,000 different plant
species in 40 acres of beautiful
landscapes. The site is almost
entirely on level ground and in
addition to its scientific value,
the garden is highly rated by
gardening enthusiasts. If you’re
plotting a visit to the city, take
time out to explore and enjoy
the winter garden, glasshouses
and superb collection of mature
trees. John Stevens Henslow,
Professor of Botany, founded
the Botanic Garden in the mid
19th century, adding many
fascinating features including
a lake, glasshouses, winter
garden, chronological bed
and rock gardens. The garden
holds nine national collections,
including
Geranium
and
Fritillaria, and attracts over
200,000 visitors a year. The
heritage-listed garden has
been designed for both year-
round interest and seasonal
inspiration so whenever you
visit you will find plants to
intrigue and enchant. Since its
opening in 1846, Cambridge
University Botanic Garden
has been an inspiration
for gardeners, an exciting
introduction to the natural world
for families and a refreshing
oasis for all its visitors.
