The aim of Foxes Cafe Lounge is to bring a warm,
laid back, chilled out vibe in a quirky style which is
like no other in Cumbria. The bustling and centrally
located cafe and bar prides itself on being a cultural
hub and serving the finest local produce. Alongside
a wide range of full bean coffees and delicious
smoothies and milkshakes, you can find a number
of alcoholic refreshments on offer such as beers,
fine wines and real ale on draught from their local
brewery only eight miles away. If you’re hungry,
there are plenty of mouth watering, scrumptious
healthy food and epic cakes for sale as well. The
rotating specials board features hot lunches,
salads, burgers and sandwiches, and breakfast is
also available all day. Besides the often updated
menu, Foxes is also the official home to a public
art gallery, regular live music, and with a 100″ big
screen, film nights are also put on regularly. There’s
even an option for sport lovers: the Jackrabbitt
Social, a get-together with like-minded folk who
all share action sports as a passion whether it be
snowboarding, mountain biking, rock climbing
or surfing. Foxes also plays host to one of the
most anticipated open mics in the region, with
many performers having gone on to play on the
BBC. Regularly organised poetry readings allow
local writers to display their talent, and amateur
filmmakers also have the opportunity to screen their
short films and animations, making the location a
feast for culture vultures. Foxes is a quirky venue
with a welcoming soul; it’s positioned snugly on
the original cobbles of Abbey Street, nestled neatly
between Carlisle Castle and Carlisle Cathedral
within the Historic Quarter. The environment is as
infectious as the great outdoors where everyone
can relax and every passer-by gets a hello.
