From the moment you pass through the front door,
located at the side of the restaurant, you’ll know
you’ve found something special. Mandarin Garden
deploys Feng Shui throughout the premises, and
the side opening allegedly brings better karma to
your dining experience. The menu is extensive
and offers a variety of starters and mains, as well
as tempting desserts, something uncommonly seen
in other Chinese restaurants. If you want to try a
little of everything, simply order from the Mandarin
Garden’s banquet menu. For starters you’ll receive
a large platter of spare ribs, prawn toasts, vegetable
spring rolls and dipping sauces. To follow you’ll share
an aromatic crispy duck, served with traditional
pancakes. On to the main event and you can indulge
in special fried rice, with no less than five dishes from
the menu covering a spectrum of meat and seafood.

The Manchurian is a reasonably-priced restaurant
that serves up excellent Chinese cuisine. Situated
on Gellatly Street, not far from the city’s docks,
the bustling eatery provides an authentic taste of
traditional Oriental cooking. A popular lunch menu
provides two or three-course dining, though the
dim sum menu is where the Manchurian can be
appreciated in all its sizzling Eastern glory. Proudly
billing itself as Dundee’s first dim sum restaurant,
the Manchurian is at its best when serving up small
dishes that are designed for sharing. Dumplings;
cheung fun; roast pork belly and shredded duck,
served with fried flat noodles. All the Chinese
staples you would expect are accounted for,
meanwhile, in the a la carte menu, with shredded
beef, chicken and duck plus Szechuan dishes
infused with chillies, peppers and garlic. While
Dundee has no shortage of Chinese diners, the
Manchurian stands out by virtue of its fair prices
and satisfying, authentic food.
