              TRATTORIA GUIDI

Trattoria Guidi proudly claims to be

“The home of the Sloppy Joe”, but

it’s also home to a lot more besides.

          This family-owned restaurant,

situated close to Airdrie, has been

          serving authentic Italian cuisine

for over 30 years. While traditional

Italian recipes are used, the high

          quality ingredients, including beef

and fish, are sourced locally. The

          mussels come from Shetland, the

salmon is Scottish of course and

          the glorious, sweet desserts are

          homemade. The restaurant itself

is housed in a huge, light dining

          room with exposed wooden beams

making it feel more like a converted

barn. There’s plenty of elbow room

and ample space in which to soak

up the atmosphere as you peruse

the menu. As you would expect

          of any self-respecting Italian

          restaurant, Guidi’s starts things

off with a selection of fine cured

          meats and cheeses. Antipasto then

leads on to pasta, pizzas, beef

          and seafood, accompanied by an

          extensive wine menu. For diners

          seeking to keep things simple,

Guidi’s pizzas are hard to fault,

though be warned, there’ll still be

          some decision-making involved: a

          wealth of toppings encompasses

          everything from Italian classics

          to Mexican and American-

inspired options. Not to forget the

          house special either: the Sloppy

Joe, made with chilli con carne

and mozzarella in a calzone folded

          pizza. Tuck in.
