THE HILL
END CENTRE
The Hill End Centre is a 65-acre
site spread over a gentle south-
facing hillside on the edge of
Wytham Woods, Oxfordshire. It
forms a tranquil haven for learning
and discovering about the great
outdoors. The site is managed
for wildlife and features a wide
diversity of habitats including chalk
grassland, ponds and streams,
marshland
and
developing
woodland. The upper grassland
slopes are part of the Wytham
Wood Site of Special Scientific
Interest. The Hill End Centre is
sought out for its natural resources
that are suited to field studies
and environmental education. It
features facilities for organised
groups of any age who can spend
a day or stay on a residential
visit at any time of the year. The
remarkably peaceful site is an ideal
location for educational, social
and recreational visits. Children’s
activities, led by a teacher or
instructor, are regularly hosted
along with family events throughout
the year. Various training and
workshops for adults include forest
school training, outdoor first aid
and map skills. The centre has
worked to provide outdoor learning
opportunities for the children and
young people of Oxfordshire since
the 1920s. All profits from the
weddings and ceremonies it hosts
go towards funding the educational
programs offered for both children
and adults.
