Sheffield United compete in League One, the
third tier of English football. The football club was
formed in 1889 as an offshoot of Sheffield United
Cricket Club, and are nicknamed The Blades due
to Sheffield’s history of steel production. The club
play their home games at Bramall Lane, an all-
seater ground with a capacity of over 32,000.
Their closest rivals are Sheffield Wednesday,
with whom they contest the Steel City Derby.
Interestingly, a 2013 study of posts on social
networking site Twitter found that Blades fans
have the most positive interactions with the official
account of their club out of any in English football.
A football club with a family tradition, Sheffield
United’s stadium has a real buzz about it on match
