a walk-in service as well as
takeaway with 10% off. Ashoka
represents the culmination
of 44-year old ambition – to
serve truly authentic Indian
food to diners who appreciate
the genuine article. Cooked
from fresh ingredients, the
toothsome Indian food is
served in a relaxed and
friendly atmosphere. Try the
chicken liver puri and the main
course Kashmiri lamb bhuna
which outsells any other dish.
The livers are fragrant and
juicy inside a deep-fried shell,
the lamb tender as can be. The
aloo chop, which is basically a
potato cake, is also worth a
try; there’s a pleasure to be
had in the contrast between
crisp outside and soft innards,
given a heft in flavour by fresh
coriander. The mung daal is
another great choice. It has a
very firm mouthfeel and acts
as almost a palate cleanser
between mouthfuls of curry.
Pilau rice and a Kashmiri
naan should provide enough
satisfying carbs to complete a
hearty meal.
