BOWOOD HOUSE
& GARDENS
This grade I listed Georgian
house is set in a sweeping one
hundred acres of landscaped
gardens, designed by Lancelot
“Capability” Brown, with a
scenic backdrop of Wiltshire
countryside. Sitting next to the
village of Derry Hill, Bowood
House and Gardens is located
halfway between Calne and
Chippenham. The estate is
home to the Marquis and
Marchioness of Lansdowne
and has been in the family
since 1754. Throughout this
time,
artefacts,
antiques
and art have been collected,
and are available here in the
state rooms for perusal by the
general public. A programme
of events runs during the
spring and summer months,
including private tours of the
walled garden, fairs, shows
and outdoor performances,
and Bowood House can
play host to a variety of
private functions. Kids will
be kept entertained too, with
an adventure playground
providing high octane thrills
for the kids, as well as a full
size pirate ship and a soft play
area for the younger ones.
Refreshments can be taken at
the Treehouse Cafe, Stables
Restaurant or in the form of a
picnic in the grounds.
