GALLERY
Open daily from 10:30am to
5pm, the Victoria Art Gallery
houses two impressive floors
of paintings, sculptures and
decorative art works by over
2,000 artists. There’s an
eclectic mix, for in the gallery
you’ll find work from local
amateur painters through to
high profile portraitists such
as Thomas Gainsborough
charting the changing scenes
and landscapes of Bath and
the surrounding countryside
through the centuries. Entry
to the permanent displays
in the upper galleries, as
well as the exhibitions in the
small lower gallery, is free
thanks to donations provided
by local supporters, while
temporary exhibitions in the
larger ground floor gallery are
subject to an entry fee. Helpful
and enthusiastic volunteers
are on hand to provide
more information on the
pieces and an art cart on the
upper level is equipped with
activities, materials, books
and a dressing up box to keep
younger visitors occupied. The
rotunda area of the gallery
provides a relaxing haven for
some time to digest the work,
while the gift shop has plenty
of original gift ideas and artistic
souvenirs to take home.
