FASHION MUSEUM
This is a must-see museum
for fashionistas everywhere.
Playing host to a world
class collection of clothing,
Assembly Rooms charts
the history of garments
ranging from the historic to
the contemporary. Originally
launched as the Museum
of Costume in 1963, the
Fashion Museum has been
known in its current form
since 2007, and is housed
in the Assembly Rooms
building. Over 100,000
visitors flock to the site
annually, including many
fashion students seeking
to grow and deepen their
understanding of design.
The site offers a programme
of events and special
exhibitions, as well as study
facilities and plays host
to the Bath branch of the
knitting and crochet guild.
The onsite shop specialises
in 18th century Georgian
styled products, inspired by
the romantic era of Jane
Austen and has a large
range of books on clothing,
patterns and textiles. It’s
also a useful place to
pick up a gift for a fashion
lover, stocking creatively
designed
accessories,
jewellery and stationery, and
before you go, pop into the
cafe for a refreshing tea and
delicious cake.
