            Lacock Abbey
          
        
        
          Set in the picturesque English village of Lacock,
        
        
          Lacock Abbey is a National Trust heritage site,
        
        
          boasting stunning grounds as well as many
        
        
          historical artifacts and works of art. The Grade I
        
        
          listed building was originally anAugustinian nunnery
        
        
          when founded by the Countess of Salisbury in the
        
        
          early 13th century before being converted into a
        
        
          private home around the time of the dissolution of
        
        
          the monasteries. Through the years many additions
        
        
          and changes have been made to the building’s
        
        
          makeup, such as a gothic great hall and gateway
        
        
          in 1754, and alterations to the South Front in the
        
        
          mid 1800s by its resident, William Fox Talbot.
        
        
          Once inside you’ll also find an octagonal Tudor
        
        
          turret room, Renaissance carvings, sculptures and
        
        
          vaulted mediaeval cloisters. Harry Potter fans may
        
        
          recognise some of the interior areas from Harry
        
        
          Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. As well a being
        
        
          a stunning stately home with impressive gardens,
        
        
          the Abbey is also home to a fascinating museum
        
        
          dedicated to the founding of photography, The Fox
        
        
          Talbot Museum, inspired by the work and world
        
        
          changing inventions of Lacock’s renowned owner.
        
        
          Charting the full history of the art form, you can
        
        
          learn about its beginnings right through to modern
        
        
          day technological capabilities. A programme of
        
        
          events is available in season, including dedicated
        
        
          photography exhibitions, nature trails, educational
        
        
          activities and installations. After spending time
        
        
          delving into everything the Abbey has to offer, you
        
        
          can enjoy a drink and a bite to eat, with a choice of
        
        
          the Courtyard Tea Room or the Stables Cafe. If you
        
        
          prefer to bring your own lunch however, there’s the
        
        
          option to find a spot in the pretty grounds and picnic
        
        
          al fresco. As your visit draws to a close, you can
