THINK TANK
Thinktank is Birmingham’s
dedicated science museum.
The award-winning facility is
located within the Millennium
Point complex in Digbeth and
aims to provoke debate about
deepest space among other
things. If you’ve ever wanted
to breeze through the doors
of a museum and find out how
black holes work, learn about
the city’s industrial past or
discover how doctors perform
life-saving surgery, this is the
place to visit. Thinktank boasts
over 200 hands-on displays
spread over four floors, with
subjects such as technology
and science given particular
attention. Get to grips with
steam engines, talking robots
and a chocolate-wrapping
machine; the museum is
about learning how things –
matter, machines, the mind –
work, think, feel and interact.
As you roam, you’re sure to
gain a greater perspective
on the world of science and
human endeavour. Thinktank
is also home to a large
historical collection, a Science
Garden and a state-of-the-
art Planetarium, where you
can tour the darkling night
sky and whoosh through the
galaxy without having to strap
on a spacesuit. An extensive
programme of educational
events is also offered. Get
along and expand your mind.
