Bodega is a contemporary
cantina whose Latin American-
inspired food is turning heads
in Birmingham. And it’s not
just the tucker that sets this
Bennetts Hill venue apart:
so does the decor. Bright
blue walls featuring vibrant
illustrations, gold iron-cast
chairs, skull paintings, cactus
murals, mini chandeliers and
exposed brickwork are just a
few of the flamboyant features.
Part of the Bitters ‘N’ Twisted
family of bars, Bodega is a
quirky space in which to enjoy
a chilled bottle of beer, a fresh
cocktail or a scrumptious
quesadilla. While the venue
attracts a mostly younger
crowd, it’s the sort of place
where everyone is made to feel
welcome. If you drop by during
happy hour, treat yourself to
the cut-price cocktail of the
day. The deal runs from 4pm
till 7pm. Alternatively, ask to
see the wine list, which offers a
selection of hand-picked South
American labels. Downstairs
in the basement you’ll find
Sugarloaf, the buzzing ‘party
bar’ which follows the same
South American vibe; the walls
are plastered with Day of the
Dead iconography. Sugarloaf
is perhaps most famous for
its tailor-made tequila-based
cocktails. Try one and see for
