Looking for a place where you can pop in after a
long walk with your best four-legged friend for a
coffee or tea? Look no further than Darnley Coffee
House, just a stone’s throw away from Stirling
Castle, which offers doggy platters and treats for
every canine customer. They also offer a variety
of delectable dishes for humans including scones,
sandwiches, homemade soups, baked potatoes
and small plates such as hummus with olives or
brie and chutney. The location of the coffee house
is also particularly atmospheric: it can be found
in the vaulted cellars of a 16th-century home
belonging to Lord Darnley, best known as the
second husband of Mary, Queen of Scots. The
walls are lined with art and curiosities, including
a wall of different currencies from around the
world. Darnley Coffee House provides a warm and
friendly place for lunch seven days a week.

The CROSSED PEELS
Youcan’tpassthroughStirlingwithoutencountering
The Crossed Peels. The Wetherspoons pub,
one of the largest in the area, which occupies a
former tax office on Spittal Street, is hard to miss.
Taking its name from the bakers shovels that form
Stirling’s trade emblem, The Crossed Peels is a
capacious pub with space for over 700 patrons. In
typical Wetherspoons fashion, the bar opens early;
from 7am, patrons can pop in for a breakfast roll
and fresh coffee, before switching to something a
little stronger later in the day. A well-stocked bar
offers a good selection of real ales, crafts beers,
draught ciders and imported brands. A reasonably
priced food menu is packed with promos through
the week, allowing patrons to enjoy two meals for
less than a tenner. Tuck in to such classics as
chilli con carne or pub staples that include British
steak and kidney pudding.
