The Carnegie Courthouse Ltd
Castle Street, Dornoch, IV25 3SD
CarnegieTea Room & Deli
The Carnegie Tearoom & Deli is a delightful
mixture of old fashioned Scottish cosiness and
epicurean stylishness. Breakfast and lunch is
available seven days a week and you can shop as
you eat, with food and drink items on display that
can be purchased and taken home. The focus is
clearly on quality with locally sourced speciality
items and wholesome home baking. Dietary
requirements are well catered for and the friendly
front of house team are always on hand to assist
with anything you need. The Dornoch Courthouse
in which the Carnegie Tearoom & Deli is housed is
steeped in history, but there’s an earthiness about
the decor. Classy muted greens, browns and
creams and sturdy shabby chic wooden furniture
are all lit by low hanging bare edison retro bulbs,
while tasteful artwork subtly pays homage to the
building’s original purpose as a courtroom. In
this comfy atmosphere you can warm up next to
the wood burning stove and browse the papers.
There’s a variety of delicacies available on the
menu with everything from Mexican, Spanish,
Greek and of course Scottish cuisine, alongside
some devilishly decadent cakes. Whether you’re
looking for a lighter, waistline friendly choice or
a rich dish, there’s something for you. Choose
from a selection of alcoholic beverages or from
a large number of hot and cold drinks - don’t
miss the Gunpowder Chinese Green Tea which is
particularly good. The deli has an authentic rustic
feel, with sacks and buckets filled with high end
items that make food shopping far more enjoyable
than a trip to the supermarket. In summer, the
tearoom opens its doors to a garden area for
an al fresco experience - weather permitting of
course. Whatever the season though, this is a
delightful spot that will appeal to history buffs and
foodies alike.
