Castle Street, Dornoch,
Sutherland, IV25 3SN
Continental dining with an emphasis on seafood
coupled with a staggering wine list is what this
choc street eatery offers its public. Expect to be
welcomed into a cosy establishment which is
relaxed in the afternoon but more formal in the
evening at Luigi. Open daily for lunch all year round,
the diner serves a range of healthy options such as
soups, fresh salads, risottos, burgers, sandwiches
and homemade cakes. Suited for diners who like to
dress down, Luigi has a relaxed atmosphere and
an ever-evolving menu laden with treats such as
butternut squash & lime soup, crabcakes with chilli
jam, salad of baked goat’s cheese as well as your
more traditional perfectly cooked steaks and beer
battered cod and chips. It’s clear that the restaurant
seriously likes its wine as you can choose from
eleven white wines and twelve reds that range
from Chardonnays to Chablis and Merlots to
Montalcino. Expect to eat healthy and to eat well
in this establishment, where the food is fresh
and the portion sizes are generous. The various
plants dotted around the venue give it a very light
and breezy atmosphere, imparting a tranquil and
welcoming vibe. For first-time visitors to Dornoch,
it’s all too easy to pass Luigi by on account of its
unassuming exterior, marked only by two small
trees planted outside. You’d be forgiven for thinking
that it was just a dainty little cafeteria. Thankfully,
it’s much more than that as you’ll discover upon
crossing the threshold and entering this cavernous
restaurant whose eclectic menu is full of too many
highlights to mention. Locals and visitors are
unanimous in agreement on this one: Luigi is a
cracking cafe and bistro, whatever your culinary
tastes and whatever season you happen to pop in.
