You’ll be trumpeting about this tiny and charming
little restaurant that makes food fit for a president
when you get a taste of their wild game and
freshly caught seafood. What’s on the menu at
The Whitehouse is entirely what the proprietors
have been able to catch and transport that day
due to its hard to reach location. So be prepared
for a differently arranged menu that has unique
twists from day to day. Despite this randomicity,
the menu may end up pleasantly surprising
you as you will find everything from freshly
hunted venison to stag’s liver. One of the head
chefs Lee Myers has even worked with Gordon
Ramsay and has earned his spurs working at
The Ritz in London as well as at Galvin’s Bistro
De Luxe. The Whitehouse may be out of the
way, but the culinary delights that await make
the journey worthwhile.
CHLACHAIN INN
Davies Brae, Mallaig, PH41 4QY

Situated in aworking fishing village and specialising
in Mallaig haddock, fresh scallops and succulent
mussels and prawns, The Chlachain Inn manages
to successfully combine centuries of history with a
modern and plush dining environment. One of its
three rooms comes equipped with a fully decked
patio and each room has calming colours, giving
them a luxurious feel. Breakfast is served in the
guest room and is included as an option when
booking a room for the night. The bar is child-
friendly, making The Chlachain Inn perfect for
families who want to keep their kids entertained
with colourful books and a menu that’s tailored for
their tastes. During the course of the 40-odd miles
that you will travel to get here, you will see such
amazing sights as the Glenfinnan viaduct, which
famously featured in the Harry Potter films. The
journey’s epic, but then so’s the food.
