          ARTS, CULTURE & TOURISM

The legacy of Charles Rennie Mackintosh looms large

over Glasgow, and never is it more evident than in

House for an Art Lover. In addition to its fascinating

art gallery, the building houses an events space,

cafe and artists’ studios. Mackintosh’s original plans,

drawn up in 1901, lay unutilised until 1990 when the

late architect’s vision finally became a reality. As you

explore the house and grounds, you’ll encounter such

sights as a life-size model elephant, or lose yourself

in Amaze, an unconventional maze that draws its

inspiration from The Matrix and Lewis Carroll’s Alice

Stories. One of the best things about House for an Art

Lover is the way it seamlessly blends the old with the

new. Modern artworks and sculptures stand proudly

alongside the original building. After a day exploring

the house and grounds, finish up by paying a visit to

Art Lover’s Café, where you can take your cuppa on

the terrace as you gaze out across the park.

          centre’s swimming facilities range from a 25m

competition pool to leisure waters containing a

The interactive water features also include an

awesome lazy river to float, sink, whoosh and spin

your way along, a thrill that bathers of all ages

are sure to enjoy. There are group and individual

swimming lessons available, allowing kids and

adults alike to get a feel for the water and gain the

confidence to swim before venturing into deeper

waters under their own steam. Elsewhere on site

you’ll find a gym, fitness studio and health suite,

perfect for relaxing in following a tough workout

          or swim.
