THE WHITWORTH
Whitworth Art Gallery is a
sprawling art museum that’s
crammed with all manner of
fascinating pieces. 55,000
items in all ensure there’s
always something new to
catch the eye. Housed in a
majestic building in Whitworth
Park, the centre was buoyed
in 2015 after being awarded
the Art Fund Prize for Museum
of the Year. The museum’s
excellence, innovation and
imagination earned high praise
from the judges. Situated close
to the University of Manchester
campus, The Whitworth boasts
an
astonishingly
diverse
collection
of
international
art. Textiles, wallpapers and
contemporary art can all be
found alongside historic works
by William Blake, Turner and
Rossetti. A collection of fine
prints includes notable offerings
from Cézanne and Renoir,
while a sculpture section is
crammed with major works
by Epstein, Hepworth and
Metzger. A trip to The Whitworth
wouldn’t be complete with a
meal at The Modern Caterer.
Peter Booth’s seasonal menu
includes delicious warm salads
and freshly made sourdough.
The museum gallery and shop
are open daily till 5pm and 9pm
on Thursdays. Come and see
