NATIONAL
FOOTBALL
MUSEUM
When it came to choosing a city
for the National Football Museum,
Manchester was an obvious
candidate. And since launching in
2012, the attraction has proved a
hit with locals and tourists alike.
The world’s finest collection of
football artefacts happens to be
housed in one of the city’s most
modern buildings, the four-floor
former URBIS museum. Step
inside and you’ll find a wealth of
famous exhibits, including the ball
from the 1966 World Cup final
and shirts worn by the likes of
Pele, Diego Maradona and Bobby
Moore. Indeed, the Maradona
shirt is the same one he wore
during the infamous ‘Hand of God’
match. Over 2,500 objects are on
display; everything from priceless
artwork to iconic mementoes of
games ingrained in the memories
of fans the world over. This is
the permanent home of the FIFA
collection, as well as collections
from the Football League and
the FA. While admission to the
museum is free, visitors are free to
purchase a ticket to the museum’s
seven Football Plus+ experiences.
Step up to the mark and shoot a
penalty between real Wembley
goalposts, or jump into the hot seat
to commentate on a match. You’ll
also be able to grab a photo with
a gleaming trophy of your choice.
The National Football Museum is
a fantastic day out, whatever the
colour of your stripes.
