CAFES, BARS & CLUBS
Soup Kitchen has more than a few
guises. Located in Manchester’s
Northern Quarter, on the corner of
Stevenson Square, the hip venue
strikes a perfect balance between
daytime canteen and electrifying
nightspot. Whatever time you call
by, you can be sure of a pleasant
welcome. In the afternoon, the
communal-style benches and
tables welcome patrons keen to
kick back with a fair trade coffee
or sample a selection of earthy
Caribbean-inspired food, conjured
from fresh seasonal ingredients.
Sample some delicious jerk
chicken, curried goat or hard veg
vegan stew, all the while enjoying
the relaxing vibe. There are soups,
sandwiches and salads too. Food
is served from midday until 9pm
each day (7pm on Sunday), and
once the plates are sided away,
the bar begins to busy as Soup
Kitchen transforms into a first-
rate drinking den. With a broad
selection of premium beers, cask
ales and craft beers, not to mention
wines and spirits, you can quite
comfortably spend an entire night
here. Downstairs, the intimate
basement hosts a cross section of
international and local musicians,
DJs and producers. Some of the
country’s best underground artists
have been on the decks, so do
keep an eye on the listings. With
a license that occasionally runs as
late as 6am, Soup Kitchen is the
perfect venue for a full-blown night.
