CAFES, BARS & CLUBS
An enduring fixture on
Manchester’s social scene,
Joshua Brooks is a great venue
for a wild night out. During the
week the city’s students decamp
to the cavernous Victorian
basement on Princess Street,
keen to sample an eclectic
blend of music: everything from
hip-hop and house to pop and
drum ‘n’ bass is thrown into
the mix. Wednesday is ‘Juicy’,
with DJs specialising in hip-
hop, R&B and powerhouse
basement bangers. Thursday
is ‘Swoon’, where the focus
shifts to house, disco and party
tunes. Expect cut-price drinks,
a rammed dance floor and a
full-blown party atmosphere.
Joshua Brooks doesn’t wait for
darkness to fall before springing
into life either: its doors swing
open from noon each day, with
patrons offered a selection of
gourmet Pieminister pies and
wallet-friendly craft beers. The
large TV screens in the lounge,
meanwhile, play all the major
sporting events. Relax with a
pint and enjoy the weekend’s
football or rugby action. You
can take advantage of great
offers as well, with two-for-
one cocktails every Sunday a
notable highlight. Don’t forget
to keep an eye peeled for
the frequent quiz nights, free
film screenings and open-mic
nights either. Joshua Brooks
may be a nightclub, but it’s also
a whole lot more.
