CAFES, BARS & CLUBS
The bass is phat, the tunes
are dope and the mixes are
sick. Say hello to Walrus,
Manchester’s home for reggae,
roots and hip-hop. That’s not
all you’ll find on the menu
though: the food and cocktails
are also sublime. With its low
hanging lights, mesh screens
and gleaming columns, Walrus
is the epitome of urban chic.
Boldly billing itself as “The
Northern
Quarter’s
most
unique and intimate cocktail
bar”, Walrus is on a mission
to impress. Everything, from
the decor to the drinks list, has
been designed to turn heads.
Named after the Beatles’
psychedelic classic, I Am The
Walrus, the bar offers a mouth-
watering menu crammed with
vertiginously stacked burgers
and hand-crafted pizzas loaded
with pulled pork, crushed chillies
and all things nice. The cocktail
menu doesn’t disappoint either:
even the names – Hazelnut
Sidecar; Black Bison Martini –
are enough to make you thirsty.
While you re-up at the bar, a
procession of DJs lay down old
skool beats and dance floor-
fillers galore. With food and
drinks deals all through the
week and DJ nights fuelling the
weekend, there’s never a dull
moment at Walrus.
