CAFES, BARS & CLUBS
Located on Suffolk Street
is one of Birmingham’s
hippest independent cocktail
emporiums. Its name? Island
Bar. This charmingly scuzzy
nightspot, hidden away from
the bustle of the city centre,
will appeal to anyone in search
of a lively night. Lest you
need any convincing of Island
Bar’s virtues, the venue was
named by The Independent
as one of the UK’s top 50
bars. The split-level bars lets
visitors choose from a night
in the boisterous main party
room, or in the Hawaiian-
themed Tiki Bar upstairs. Of
course, you could just opt to
divide your time between both
rooms, nodding along to the
DJ when he’s playing your
favourite tracks and venturing
downstairs on those rare
occasions when the music
falters. Tiki Bar is perhaps best
enjoyed by lovers of rum, but
your bartender certainly won’t
discriminate. Slake your thirst
with a craft beer or a delicious
tropical cocktail – there are
over 70 to choose from – and
chat with the friendly staff,
who’ll be more than happy
to make recommendations.
Island Bar even offer their
very own cocktail-making
masterclasses. These ‘Shaken
and Stirred’ sessions will
have you mixing masterful
concoctions in no time.
