CARDIFF YACHT
CLUB
Cardiff Yacht Club is a
thriving yacht club that was
originally founded in Cardiff
in 1900. Today, the club can
be found on the edge of
Cardiff Bay, overlooking the
Wetlands Nature Reserve,
with panoramic views over
the bay and the Bristol
Channel beyond. Around 300
yachts and motorboats are
permanently moored on either
trot moorings or pontoons in
the freshwater bay. There are
over 50 dinghies in the club
plus a fully equipped boat yard
with two boat hoists. The yacht
section meet every Thursday
evening in the club bar from
8pm, and in summer months
sail beforehand from 5:30pm
either within the bay or out
in the Bristol Channel as the
tide allows. They also arrange
regular cruises in company
and other events for members
to enjoy such as the Blue Book
Challenge. In addition, there’s
an active motorboat section
plus a very successful fishing
section who fish the waters
of the Bristol Channel. Many
species of fish are caught in
these waters including conger,
mackerel,
bass,
pollack,
bull, huss, smoothhound and
various species of ray.
