Wales Millennium Centre is an arts centre of
national importance located in the Cardiff Bay
area of the Welsh capital. Phase 1 of the building
opened in November 2004 and phase 2 opened
in January 2009 with an inaugural concert. The
centre has hosted performances of opera, ballet,
dance, theatre, comedy and musicals from
leading lights of the stage. Wales Millennium
Centre comprises one large theatre and two
smaller halls with shops, bars and restaurants. It
houses the national orchestra and opera, dance,
theatre and literature companies, forming a total
of eight arts organisations in residence. It is also
home to the Cardiff Bay Visitor Centre. The main
theatre, the Donald Gordon Theatre, has close to
1,900 seats, the BBC Hoddinott Hall 350 and the
Weston Studio Theatre 250. Whether it’s casual
or pre-show dining, dropping in to share a drink
with friends or buying gifts, Wales Millennium
Centre has a wide range of fine choices. You can
also enjoy pre-performance and interval drinks
in the Awen, Stones and Horizons bars situated
behind the world-famous inscription. Within the
sprawling events space you’ll also find wine
and tapas at One, a contemporary bar; coffee
snacks and an ice cream parlour at Hufen; and
more coffee still at Crema. Then there’s Ffresh:
with stunning views of Cardiff Bay and seasonal
menus showcasing the best Welsh produce,
Ffresh is the home of great food and drink in
Wales Millennium Centre. It’s listed in the the
Michelin Guide and the Good Food Guide and
has been acclaimed by The Guardian as “a
lovely place…cracking value”. In addition to the
two main theatres the centre also has six function
rooms: the Victor Salvi Room, the David Morgan
Room, the Sony Room, the Seligman Room, the
Japan Room and the Lloyds Enterprise Suite.
