CASTLE STUART
Situated on the rolling banks of
the Moray Firth, some six miles
northeast of Inverness, is Castle
Stuart. Built by James Stuart,
3rd Earl of Moray, during the
first quarter of the 17th century,
the turreted, family-owned
residence has experienced
mixed fortunes through the
ages. In fact, it lay derelict for
some 300 years before its fate
finally took a turn for the better.
Today the remarkably well-
preserved castle serves as a
bespoke golf hotel and spa.
Such is its reputation in the
sporting world, Castle Stuart
has hosted the Scottish Open
for three successive years.
Indeed, the site was ranked
number 56 in Golf Magazine’s
‘Top 100 Courses in the World’
owing to its stunning sea
views, immaculate fairways
and dramatic infinity-edged
greens. The stunning Art
Deco Clubhouse may also
have something to do with it;
panoramic views of the course
and the Firth are offered from
huge floor-to-ceiling windows,
while no expense has been
spared in the bar, restaurant
and lounge. Whether you’re
here to play 18 holes on the
championship links course, or
simply enjoy the hospitality in
the luxury hotel, you’re sure to
enjoy your stay in the scenic
Scottish Highlands.
