ROYAL DORNOCH
GOLF CLUB
Inverness has been labelled
a gateway to the brilliant
golf courses of the north of
Scotland, and that description
is perhaps best exemplified at
Royal Dornoch, of which Tom
Watson proclaimed it to be ‘the
most fun I ever had playing
golf’. To be precise, the club is
located in a remote corner of
Sutherland, around 45 miles
north of central Inverness,
but who could blame the
town – indeed any town – for
claiming it? Regularly ranked
among the world’s finest
courses,
Royal
Dornoch
offers visitors from all over
the world excellent packages
and golden opportunities to
enjoy both the landscape
and the links. Surrounded by
white sandy shorelines, this
timeless Championship course
is somehow isolated and yet
inclusive, with the whipping
North Sea winds making it a
thoroughly challenging and
enjoyable round. Formed in
1877, the club has enjoyed
‘Royal’ status for over a century
and has long been considered
the jewel in the crown of
Scotland’s golfing heritage.
While a round will require you
to stump up, it’s surely worth it
for the bragging rights, to say
nothing of what promises to be
a memorable afternoon of golf.
