              SEED

          Over the past two decades,

          The Mustard Seed has carved

out a reputation for simple yet

          flavoursome cuisine married

          with

          impeccable

          service.

          This converted former church

          certainly has the wow factor,

          as guests will discover upon

          crossing the threshold: high

ceilings and an open fire are just

two of the features likely to draw

a second glance. The decor itself

          however is thoroughly modern

          in appearance. Located on the

eastern fringe of the River Ness,

          The Mustard Seed allows diners

to take their meal on the patio,

          enjoying spectacular views over

the water as they unwind. The

menu, for its part, places a keen

          emphasis on Highland produce,

          no surprise given that much

of the food is locally sourced.

Naturally, the proof is in the

          eating itself, and The Mustard

          Seed certainly delivers. The

          seasonal dishes smack of rustic

          flavour, with options including

          coriander-cured Scottish salmon

or grilled breast of wood pigeon

          served with local black pudding.

The 21-day aged rib steak, from

          Munro’s of Dingwall, makes a

          terrific option for carnivores –

the Cafe de Paris butter and red

          wine jus complement the meat

perfectly. Oh, and at less than

          £10 for a two-course lunch, even

          the prices warrant a smile.
