The denizens of Ayr just couldn’t
get enough of Cecchini’s.
Following
the
resounding
success of its maiden outlet,
the ristorante went on to open
a further two outposts, in
Ardrossan and Prestwick. The
Ardrossan restaurant is located in
a converted old Power House on
the harbour. Imparting panoramic
views that stretch beyond the
marina towards Arran, the space
is perfect for a romantic evening
meal or drinks with friends in
the bistro. The food is pretty
impressive, too – authentic and
generously portioned Tuscan
dishes at competitive prices. The
starters are just what’s needed
to rev the engine, with options
including pan-fried gnocchi
tossed through crisp salad
leaves, fresh seasonal melon
with cured Italian parma ham
and mussels steamed in white
wine and served in a garlic, leek
and cream sauce. As you might
expect, there is no shortage of
pastas, risottos and calzones on
the list of mains, though there
are several pleasant surprises
too: the pan-seared duck breast
served with a honey and fig jus
is especially enticing. Open from
9:30am till midnight Monday to
Thursday andSunday, Cecchini’s
stays open an extra hour on
Friday and Saturday. With food
this good, you’ll appreciate that
extra hour.
