Bristol Museum & Art Gallery
BRISTOL MUSEUM
Spread over three floors, the
world-class Bristol Museum
and Art Gallery is home to a
great many fascinating and
important collections. Whether
you’re interested in art,
religion, archaeology, nature,
science,
photography
or
natural history, the facility will
have you spellbound. The 19
galleries within this capacious
Edwardian building offer a
dynamic insight into ancient
civilisations and the extent of
human creativity down the ages.
Popular collections include one
dedicated to Archaeology and
World Cultures, which includes
artefacts from Ancient Egypt
and Assyria, with a mummy as
the focal point. The Geology,
Applied Art and Eastern Art
collections have even been
designated as collections
of
national
importance.
Housing minerals, gemstones
and crystals, including the
famous Bristol Diamond, the
geology gallery is particularly
captivating. The ever-popular
dinosaur collection, meanwhile,
lays out the fossil of Britain’s
best-preserved dinosaur –
the scelidosaurus. Wildlife
galleries, on the other hand,
feature more contemporary
animals – rare and endangered
species from the UK and
around the world. When you’ve
seen the collections, make a
pit-stop at the cafe for a freshly-
brewed coffee or a light bite.
