Blaise Castle House Museum
BLAISE CASTLE
Blaise Castle is a perennially
popular Bristol attraction,
particularly with families. The
grand 18th-century mansion
is set within 650 acres of
verdant parkland, and is home
to a fascinating social history
collection. Visitors can pore
over artefacts from throughout
the ages, including Victorian
toilets and baths, Neoclassical
sculptures
and
reliefs,
antiquated laundry equipment,
model trains, figurines, dolls’
houses and period garments.
Fully restored to its former
glory, the magnificent Picture
Room features an eye-catching
portico and opulent domed
glass ceiling, as well as several
gilded chandeliers. Elsewhere,
the Victorian School Room is
an eye-opening insight into the
classrooms of yesteryear. With
dusty leather-bound books,
original wooden desks and
a well-worn blackboard, the
room provides an authentic
snapshot of the past, and is
oft-used these days by school
groups. If the sun’s shining,
venture into the splendid
grounds, designed by heralded
landscape artist Humphry
Repton. Alternatively, take the
little ones to the adventure
playground, complete with
climbing frames, swings and a
slide, or head to the picnic area
to enjoy a barbecue. All told,
Blaise Castle provides a fun
day out for the whole family.
