You’d expect the Scottish
Restaurant of the Year 2015
to be a wee bit special and
you wouldn’t be wrong. The
Adamson is all that with a cherry
on top and a garnish on the side.
The St Andrews establishment,
the brainchild of directors Julie
Lewis and Graham Dalton, was
founded in 2012 with a mission
to shake up Fife’s culinary
scene. A seasonal menu draws
heavily on the riches to be found
in Scotland’s larder, especially
those that can be plucked from
the North Sea and landed locally.
Rock oysters, smoked salmon,
king prawns and Atlantic sole
can all be found on a concise
but inventive menu. Mondays
allow couples to enjoy a fine
rump steak for a fixed price,
Tuesdays are all about two-for-
one burgers, and Sundays are
dedicated to the perfect roast,
complete with hand cut chips
and fluffy Yorkshire puddings.
The food may be hearty and
flavoursome, but what about
the drinks? Not surprisingly,
just as much attention has been
lavished on them, with highlights
including classic cocktails that
look every bit as good as they
taste. Nothing at The Adamson,
from the locally sourced
ingredients to the spectacular
presentation of the dishes, has
been left to chance. What’s
so special about the Scottish
Restaurant of the Year? Pretty
much everything.
