Playfair’s restaurant and steakhouse is a family
affair and the recipient of a coveted AA rosette.
Flavour, origin and seasonality are the three words
that dictate the restaurant’s philosophy. Under
Head Chef Duncan McLachlan’s stewardship, the
restaurant and steakhouse has grown in stature with
every passing year as word of its culinary wonders
has spread. In recent years, Playfair’s has picked
up numerous awards including a Visit Scotland
‘Taste Our Best’ award, granted to restaurants
whose dishes are at least 40% Scottish in origin.
While the menus are updated regularly to reflect
seasonal trends, on a typical evening you might
find yourself sitting down to a starter of sea bream
ceviche made with Mull of Kintyre crab, avocado
pureé, watermelon, fennel and tangerine. For main
course, the steaks are the obvious draw, crowned
by a 6oz fillet that’s been aged for a minimum of 21
days. Every mouthful is a flavour sensation.

Step inside the door of The Peat Inn and you

This exquisite five-star restaurant is the product
of husband and wife team Geoffrey and
Katherine Smeddle. The French-inspired menu is
complimented by an extensive wine list. Lunch and
dinner are served in three small dining rooms that
provide an intimate setting in which to savour the
exquisite fare. Seafood is a speciality, with seared
hake, scallop tartar and lobster & coconut bisque
just some of the tantalising names to be found on
the menu. Dessert includes an array of Scottish
favourites alongside a selection of farmhouse
