CAFES, BARS & CLUBS
139 Cowgate, Edinburgh, EH1 1JS
0131 622 6802
The Three Sisters is a notorious Edinburgh
drinking den and nightspot – that’s notorious
in the good sense of the word. Well known to
locals as well as anyone who’s ever spent a
messy weekend in the capital, the Sisters is a
one-stop shop, a place that tries to be all the
things to all the people and with a great deal
of success too. For big sporting events, be it
the Champions League final or the World Cup,
the huge outdoor screen sees revellers throng
to the courtyard and al fresco bar to raise plastic
glasses aloft and roar their team on. Inside, a
cavernous bar stretches as far as the eye can
see, while a separate nightclub upstairs is a
zone all of its own. This isn’t the sort of spot you
go for a quiet drink, but if you’re having a rowdy
one with a bunch of mates, The Three Sisters
has to be on your itinerary.
DRAGONFLY
52 West Port, Edinburgh, EH1 2LD
0131 228 4543
Dragonfly is a quaint and enchanting little bar
that specialises in serving up gorgeous looking
cocktails. These are libations that look as
amazing as they taste, having been expertly
shaken and stirred by the bar’s experienced
mixologists. Tucked away on Edinburgh’s West
Port, Dragonfly’s appeal owes as much to the
bar itself as it does to the exquisite drinks that
are served up long into the night. Much of the
1920s decor has been preserved, including
the dark panelled bar and chandeliers, giving
this chic bar a speakeasy vibe. On weekends,
resident DJs crank up the tunes, whereupon
Dragonfly truly comes to life. Open till 1am
seven days a week, Dragonfly is the sort of
place you pop into for a long overdue catch up
with good friends as well as the starting point
for a night that will inevitably lead you through
the Grassmarket and on to the Cowgate.
