Situated on the edge of Bruntsfield links, The

Golf Tavern doubles as a bar and restaurant,

with an extensive drinks list accompanied by a

food menu that’s stocked with mouth-watering

dishes. One of Scotland’s oldest establishments,

The Golf Tavern has recently been refurbished to

the highest standards. Stained glass, exposed

stonework and ornate iron window bars exude an

air of grandeur, but for all its sophistication, the

tavern isn’t a pretentious kind of place. Dressing

up for dinner will not be required (though there’s

nothing stopping you from looking out your finest

threads should you get the urge). Whisky is a

speciality at the bar, with a selection of superior

malts complemented by 15 excellent gins. Major

sporting events are shown on the big screen,

while a set menu allows diners to enjoy two

courses plus a round of pitch and putt on the links

course that abuts the historic Golf Tavern.

          Edinburgh’s Underground Cultural Capital. The

originators of its much imitated style, The Bongo

Club specializes in the art and music of the

underground. Since it’s roots from the old bus

depot in New Street back in 1996, to Moray House

in Holyrood in 2003 and finally to it’s new location

to the Central Library vaults in the Cowgate in 2013,

The Bongo Club has always broken the traditional

mould for a nightclub. The Bongo Club is an

Edinburgh institution if ever there were one, offering

up a stellar selection of clubs that have helped build

its reputation as one of the best places to boogie

into the wee hours, bolstered by occasional gig

nights and, yes, its very own beer garden too.

Currently home to some of the Edinburgh’s best-

loved club nights, the venue’s musical policy takes

in roots, dub, funk, soul, electro and more, basically,

it’s the perfect antidote if you’ve been subjected to

          too much chart music.
