The Mousetrap is a new
addition to Leith’s pub scene,
and a welcome one too. Leith
Walk is hardly short of drinking
dens, but The Mousetrap has
carved out a niche for itself and
appears to be well on its way
to accruing a loyal clientele,
the lifeblood of any pub. The
bar extends a warm welcome
to anyone – human or canine –
who ventures inside to quench
their thirst. Dogs will have to
content themselves with a
water bowl, while their owners
can choose from a wide range
of ales, craft beers, spirits
and wines. On Wednesday
nights, the pub plays host to
the Bad Boy Pub Quiz, with a
£30 bar tab to the victors. The
Mousetrap isn’t just for drinking
in either – it’s also for playing
in. The Den, situated to the
rear of the bar, is equipped with
Donkey Kong, pinball, Silent
Scope and a host of board
games. The Den can be hired
free of charge for birthdays and
other celebrations, forming a
cosy private space in which to
drink, dance and game the night
away. Finally, a special word
for The Mousetrap’s greatest
offering – grilled cheese. The
bar has succeeded in elevating
the humble cheese toastie into
a gourmet treat; take one bite
of their Mighty Mouse sandwich
and you’ll be converted.
