FANNY TROLLOPES
1066 Argyle Street, Glasgow G3 8LY

Fanny Trollopes is a one-of-a-kind place, a bustling
bistro that has character and conviviality in spades.
Inside the cosy, candlelit diner, gorgeous food is
served from lunch till late, with an emphasis on
succulent meat and fish. Those who’ve eaten in Fanny
Trollopes rave about it; for those who haven’t, it’s
surely only a matter of time. The bistro offers various
deals throughout the week such as two courses for a
set price. Booking ahead is advised, as tables can be
hard to come by at peak times. While vegetarians are
well catered for, it’s carnivores who’ll be in seventh
heaven as they eye a menu laden with the finest
Scottish beef, lamb, fowl and game. The menu is
updated regularly to reflect seasonal availability, with
dishes such as pan seared Ayrshire chicken supreme
with truffled white bean puree, or smoked aubergine
croquettes, pickled Jerusalem artichokes, new potato
and soft quail’s egg salad with chilli jam? Inventive and
endlessly appetising, Fanny Trollopes is a wee gem.

This is the second Two Fat Ladies to arrive in
Glasgow. A little larger than its sister restaurant
in the West End, this one is well located for city
centre nightlife and shopping. The focus is on
fish, with the theme reflected in its underwater-
inspired decor, where fish adorn the windows
through a watery effect. Table d’hote is available
for lunch and early dinner, offering two- or three-
course meals at excellent value. Or peruse the full
selection on the a la carte menu, featuring local
specialities such as Cullen Skink, seared West
Coast scallops with Stornoway black pudding,
Scottish beef and St. James hot smoked salmon.
There’s a decadent pudding selection, with the
enormous Two Fat Ladies grand dessert a must-
try for sharing. Enjoy fine wines, Scottish malt
whiskies, aperitifs and much more to imbibe along
with your meal.
