Authentic Japanese Sushi Restaurant in Finnieston
Glasgow, offering a good variety of interesting
dishes, many not commonly found in Scottish
based Japanese restaurants, but of course the
standard katsu etc. is still available. The produce
is incredibly fresh and flavoursome with high quality
ingredients used. There’s sashimi, with the market
fish selection almost spartan in its palate-cleansing
freshness, matched with salty dipping sauce. All
of the dishes are defined by the pure, harmonious
taste of excellent Japanese cuisine. There’s further
refinement on display in the soft fillings of gyoza
and tempura in impeccably seasoned batter. It’s
all as crisp as a Kyoto mountainside and just as
refreshing. Complementing the flawless kitchen
offerings are a range of plum wines and sake that
pair beautifully with the fish. Staff are attentive
and knowledgeable and the Chef has 10 years
experience working in Japan.

Sushi, Ramen & Rice Bowl
Okome is a Japanese cafe and takeaway in
the West End of Glasgow that also offers many
oriental sweet and savoury treats. This brightly lit
little box of a takeaway shop is full of Japanese
offerings. While there’s a sublime selection
of sushi up for grabs – which comes fresh,
flavoursome and funky-looking – there’s also an
intriguing range of ramen, rice bowls and sides.
The spicy pork belly bowl features slivers of lean
meat are gently woven through a hot sauce with
vegetables, topped with crunchy beansprouts,
carrots and broccoli. Although Japanese
sausages may sound vaguely suspicious, if
you’re more a bangers and mash type, give
those yummy, smoky little guys a try – you’ll be
pleasantly surprised. The dazzling white interior
with a handful of seats are minimal and functional
for sitting in, but Okome would also be excellent if
you’re after a healthy, tasty takeaway.
