Madigan’s is a family-run tea
room tucked away in the centre
of Dundee. It’s the place to
go to enjoy good food, good
company and good service –
not to mention good tea. From
the striking purple exterior to
the ornamental tea cups that
dangle from lengths of twine,
this is a building that’s full of
character. Madigan’s is quirky,
colourful and charming. Food
is simple but appetising, with
a selection of homemade
sandwiches and freshly baked
cakes. The Castle Street
cafe, which is open from 10-5
Monday to Saturday, also sells
a selection of kitchenware,
household trinkets and gifts.
Madigan’s also professes to be
able to source specialist foods.
If you’re seeking a hard-to-find
ingredient for a recipe you’re
planning, pop into the tea
room and staff should be able
to help. The cafe has recently
expanded its remit, and is now
a tea room–cum–bookshop
thanks to the addition of a
dedicated reading section. An
entire area of the shop has
been dedicated to books, with
shelves groaning under the
weight of recipe collections,
biographies and fiction. Pop in
for a cup of tea and emerge
clutching a spot of bedtime
reading material.
