ARTS, CULTURE & TOURISM
Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum
Argyle Street, Glasgow G3 8AG

Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is the most
popular free-to-enter visitor attraction in Glasgow
and for good reason. Following an extensive
refurbishment in 2006, the gallery and museum
has enjoyed great success, with record numbers of
visitors flocking to the historic building. With one of
the greatest collections of European art clinging to
its walls, it’s the sort of place you can easily while
away an afternoon or even a whole day, wandering
from room to room as you feast your eyes on the
classic works. It’s not just about time-honoured art
however: check out the Life Gallery for example.
Here you’ll find exotic plants and animal specimens,
divided into eco-zones such as the tropical forests
of Indo-Malay and the sub-zero climes of Antarctica.
Kids will love coming face to face with such diverse
creatures as a leopard and an albatross. They’ll also
be captivated by the Discovery Zone, an interactive
area that promises the opportunity to dig up your
own mummy, become a Victorian explorer and
decide which gifts are likely to please the gods. All
through the week, a diverse programme of events
caters for children and adults alike; Toddler Time
is hosted on Fridays at 11:30am, while the RSPB
host wildlife educational classes on weekends.
Every day, the Kelvingrove Organ is coaxed into life
for a rousing recital, while grownups will relish the
Friday Focus, from 1:30pm, which sees quirky and
unusual objects thrust under the spotlight. There
are many reasons to pay a visit to Kelvingrove Art
Gallery and Museum. A dynamic attraction whose
exhibits are always changing, it promises an insight
into the exotic, the intricate and the unspeakably
beautiful. Glasgow loves Kelvingrove Art Gallery
and Museum and after roaming its wondrous halls,
you will too.
