PROVAND’S LORDSHIP
Provand’s Lordship
3 Castle Street, Glasgow, G4 0RB
0141 276 1625
Provand’s Lordship is in good nick for a building
that’s well over 500 years old. Built in 1471
as part of a hospital in the city’s cathedral
precinct, it endures as a remnant of a bygone
era. Immaculately preserved, the so-called Auld
Hoose is home to an impressive collection of
17th-century furniture gifted by the eminent Sir
William Burrell, as well as a series of impressive
royal portraits. Visitors will get a terrific insight into
household decor spanning the centuries, including
old bureaus and kitchen utensils. You must,
however, mind your head: with its low ceilings,
flagstone floors and narrow doorways, the house
at times has the feel of a hobbit’s residence. As
you venture out of the historic building, make time
to tour the St Nicholas Garden behind the house,
which has been expertly recreated to resemble
gardens of the 15th century.

The Tron is one of Glasgow’s most celebrated
entertainment venues. Three performance
spaces, rehearsal facilities and offices have
helped this venerable institution become one of
Scotland’s best-loved theatres. The building once
served as a church, and it retains many of the
charming period features that you would expect
from such a venue. The theatre prides itself on a
reputation for being a ‘creator’ of major Scottish
entertainers. Today, you can witness everything
from original plays produced with local talent to
big budget productions which tour the country. It’s
not all about the arts however: The Tron is also
known for its bar and kitchen, pop in for a pre-
theatre meal, a post-theatre drink or pay a visit
during the day to enjoy the many delights to be
found on the menu. The Tron’s dedicated family
area is open till 8pm every night, while a kids
menu ensures that no one is left out.
